My name is Theodore (Teddy) Jay and am a LLMSW and graduate from the University of Michigan School of Social Work. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Western Michigan University. Most of my career has been spent in child welfare, and I’m a passionate advocate for the health and well-being of children and families. After interning with COR, I’m excited to continue providing individual and group services to children, youth, and adults. I am particularly interested in working with LGBTQIA2S+ youth and their families and am an affirming clinician and member of the community. I’m also interested in supporting former foster care youth, foster/adoptive parents, smoking cessation, depression, anxiety, trauma, religious trauma, and financial health.
I’m not a “one size fits all” clinician and enjoy using strategies from various disciplines. I have mainly been training in using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing. I also have some training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), group therapy, and play therapy. Specifically with children, I have been trained in various play therapy techniques and love to use things like comic books, video games, art, music, and other creative approaches when partnering with my younger clients.
I understand that prioritizing your mental health can be both liberating and scary at the same time. Whether you are looking for services for yourself or a loved one, I’m happy to chat further with you on how we can partner together. I will see clients in person in the East Lansing office or through telehealth therapy across Michigan. I can be reached by email at teddy@corcounselingmi.com.
