Hey there, I’m Sarah. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 12 years of experience in the field. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University in 2009 (Fire up Chips!). I then moved to New England to pursue a master’s degree in Human Development & Family Studies with a concentration in Couple & Family Therapy at the University of Rhode Island. After spending over a decade in Rhode Island, Michigan called me home in 2020.
I have a wide array of experience working with children, adults, and their families in a variety of settings including school-based, residential and outpatient. I have over 200 hours of training in crisis intervention, sexual assault survivor advocacy, and trauma-based therapies. I specialize in treating individuals and their families struggling with primary and secondary trauma. I also treat depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and life transition struggles, including LGBTQ+ issues.
I use a multifaceted approach to therapy to meet my clients where they are and to suit their individual needs, whether trauma is a main focus or not. I incorporate music, art, and other creative expressions into various modes of therapy, including cognitive and dialectical behavior therapies, trauma-focused CBT, and various skill development. My methods are grounded in systems and solution-focused theories. I highlight clients’ strengths to drive treatment and achieve goals. I believe a solid therapeutic relationship is key to making the difficult changes necessary when experiencing mental health struggles. I feel privileged to guide and be there for my clients through some of the most difficult periods in their lives.
