Hello! My name is Loo Gen Seah-McCrea and I am Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who is licensed to offer mental health counseling in the state of Michigan and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I obtained my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grace College, Indiana and I also hold a bachelor’s degree in law (LL.B.)(Hons.) from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.
My approach to counseling is mainly from a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) orientation with an emphasis on the integration of established counseling interventions and a culturally sensitive approach. Depending on the needs of my clients, I also draw from other therapy orientations such as family systems therapy, solution focused brief therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and attachment theory.
As a professional counselor, I am committed to fulfilling my ethical and professional obligations in a safe and non-judgmental environment, for I believe that collaboration and mutual trust are essential for a positive therapeutic alliance.
I enjoy working with adolescents and adults (both individuals and couples), helping them with issues related to depression, anxiety, grief, anger-management, life-stage transitions, as well as family and intimate relationship problems. In 2018, I was selected to be part of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Foundation’s Master’s Level Minority Fellowship Program, which gave me the opportunity to grow in my professional development as a counselor who works with underserved or marginalized people groups.
I love my work as a counselor, and I like helping my clients learn how to reduce the impact of anxiety, stress, or depression on their lives or take steps to safeguard their mental health. It is a privilege to watch my clients grow and heal, investing in themselves so that they can overcome their self-doubt, shame, fears and self-sabotaging thoughts or behaviors that hold them back from leading more peaceful and fulfilling lives.
The work that I do often begins in a place of pain, fear, or suffering, even as people tell me their life stories and personal experiences. I am therefore always humbled when I see my clients start to find hope, regain their peace of mind, and have their sense of dignity restored.
