Hello, my name is Megan Streeter, LLMSW (she/her), and I’m so glad you’re here!
I have nearly five years of experience in the mental health field, particularly supporting survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from Central Michigan University and my Master of Social Work from Michigan State University, where I also earned a certification in Evidence-Based Trauma Treatment.
Through this certification, I gained in-depth knowledge of how trauma impacts both emotional and physical well-being. These effects may include negative thoughts about oneself and the world, loss of interest in things that used to bring you joy, hypervigilance, sleep difficulties, and being easily startled. My work is rooted in exploring how trauma and environmental factors affect crucial areas in a person’s life such as safety, trust, power and control, self-esteem, and intimacy.
My professional background includes:
- Supporting families experiencing homelessness
- Providing crisis intervention and support in domestic violence shelter settings
- Facilitating both individual and group therapy for survivors of sexual assault and relationship violence
I specialize in working with individuals who have PTSD, have experienced trauma, and/or are survivors of sexual trauma and intimate partner violence. I also work with clients seeking support for:
- Anxiety and depression
- Disordered eating and body image concerns
- Gender identity and sexuality exploration
- Relationship challenges and complex family dynamics
I prioritize building a collaborative, judgment-free space where people feel safe to be their authentic selves. I aim to help individuals rebuild trust in themselves, gain confidence in their decision-making, and understand that trust in relationships can exist on a spectrum. Our stories and lived experiences are sacred, and everyone deserves the right to choose who they share them with.
I primarily use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an evidence-based approach for treating PTSD that helps folks understand and challenge negative thoughts and emotions related to their trauma. In addition to being trained in CPT, I integrate techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness practices to support each person’s unique needs and goals.
